Where the systems overlap
Both systems value clear accountability, a small set of useful measures, a disciplined meeting rhythm, visible priorities, and leadership teams that solve issues rather than recycle them.
EOS organizes the business through six components: Vision, People, Data, Issues, Process, and Traction. BuiltTrue organizes the build sequence through PLUMB, FRAME, BUILD, and RUN.
The central difference is sequence
BuiltTrue treats the operating system as a structure that must be built from validated reality upward. PLUMB tests the inherited story and measures dependency. FRAME designs outcomes, seats, accountability, and decision rights. BUILD creates trusted visibility. RUN installs the planning and meeting cycles that carry execution.
That sequence matters when a company has already tried meetings, scorecards, or quarterly priorities but the practices keep leaning back onto the founder.
EOS tools and BuiltTrue equivalents are not one-for-one
A Rock and a BuiltTrue priority may look similar, but BuiltTrue requires the priority to be traced to resources and weekly work. An EOS Scorecard and a BuiltTrue shared operating view both create visibility, while BuiltTrue separates process, performance, and profit measures and adds a source-of-truth and response standard.
BuiltTrue’s accountability work also places explicit emphasis on decision rights: the authority boundary, evidence required, consultation conditions, and escalation triggers attached to an outcome.
You do not need to treat this as a conversion decision
A company already using EOS can use BuiltTrue diagnostically. If a Scorecard is not trusted, return to the evidence and source-of-truth work. If Rocks do not reach weekly work, trace the execution chain. If accountability remains founder-dependent, redesign the seat and decision rights before adding more discipline.
BuiltTrue is an independent methodology and is not affiliated with EOS Worldwide or the book Traction.

Common questions
What leaders ask next
Is BuiltTrue an EOS alternative?+
It can be used as a complete operating method, but it can also strengthen an existing EOS implementation by diagnosing structural conditions underneath the tools.
Does BuiltTrue use Rocks or Level 10 Meetings?+
BuiltTrue uses priorities and a weekly operating meeting, but its tools, definitions, and implementation sequence are independently developed.
Can a company use BuiltTrue and EOS together?+
Yes. BuiltTrue can diagnose unclear authority, unreliable evidence, or execution breaks while the company retains its EOS vocabulary and cadence.
Which system is simpler?+
EOS has a highly standardized vocabulary and implementation path. BuiltTrue gives more attention to diagnosis, decision rights, evidence quality, and the handoffs between operating layers.
